My mom does a lot of shopping online so it’s inevitable that we have a lot of cardboard boxes lying around, the majority of which have the swoopy Amazon logo on the side. The delivery man leaves them in the designated spot and my dad brings them inside when he gets the mail.
It’s a good system.
At least until I came along.
Last week I ordered book #2 in the Uglies series and two workout videos (Denise Austen’s Bootcamp (so-so) and Shape’s Get Lean (loved it)). I like Jillian Michaels, but I’ve used two of her videos — and only hers — for two years now and it’s time for some new blood.
I received an email that they had been shipped, but since I opted for the cheapo version I figured it’d still be another week. I was all prepared for five more days of Jillian when my package arrived several days early!
The box was open when I got home because my dad opened it by mistake, thinking it was something for him. I didn’t think much of it until later when my mom told me he was waiting for a new Tom-Tom. Imagine his surprise when he tore open the box expecting his latest techno-gadget and instead found a young adult novel and two workout videos.
I swear we weren’t trying to give him a hint. 😉
Holy crap! That’s hilarious! But, eh… what is a “young” adult novel? That phrasing makes it sound like “Saved by the Bell” meets the Playboy Channel 🙂
ROFL
Are you serious? It’s a genre like women’s fiction or thrillers.
I’m just used to seeing it referred to as “YA” at AW. Seeing it in non-abreviated form just kind of brought up a whole different image.
That could have also been the lack of sleep…
I love when I get amazon deliveries!!! I had to send stuff to my MIL – I have Tavernier Stones waiting for me in St Cloud now! I always do free ship & just combined some of my stuff w/ what she wanted. It’s a few deep on my TBR pile – I figured it could wait another few weeks to get to me.
Hey – for giggles – get your dad to do just 5 minutes of a video. I’d love to see that 🙂
I’d love to see my dad do five minutes of a video too, but something tells me that’s not gonna happen. 😉
Now I want to order MORE things!
heheheh. At least it wasn’t a Shaker weight. 😉
By the way, Rowyn loved the Uglies series. Westerfeld and Meding have bumped me off the favorite author list. 😛
I really liked Uglies and kind of forgot about the series. Since my next wip is YA I figure I need to get back in that mindset.
Cuz, you know, my normal mindset is sooooooo far beyond a teenagers.
Hey, Melanie, I nominated you for an award on my blog. Pop over and see what it’s all about.
Thanks Steven.

Steven’s Spot (The link in the post doesn’t work *confuzzled*)
It would have been even funnier if you had come home to find your dad dressed in a leotard doing lunges with weights. You’d have your next novel!
ROFL!! That would have been hilaaaaarious!
Funny!
My kids think Christmas is around the corner when boxes arrive. I’ve had to modify the ‘Santa’s Helper’ to be the guy in the brown uniform. 😉
Let me know what you think of the Uglies series. When I bought Leviathan (Eh.. So-so) the gal in the bookstore told me how wonderful the Uglies series was.
That’s good thinking. You must be a writer. 🙂
I really liked the first in the series — we’ll see how #2 goes. I’m dying for Gone to come out in paperback (from the Wake trilogy) so fortunately this series is already all there.
I am laughing imagining this confused look on his face as he picks up each of the items!
I love ordering from Amazon. I would get the express delivery but then figured out since they are located about 10 miles from me even if I order regular delivery, I get it the next day!
Totally!
That’s funny about the express delivery. I guess I never really thought about Amazon having a physical location. Don’t they just zip around in all the cables?
Enjoy #2! I really liked Uglies and Pretties. I’m excited for the next one!
Now I’m tempted to start it this evening, but it’s time for bed…
