YA Scavenger Hunt featuring Julie Reece

UPDATE: The hunt is now closed.

Welcome to the YA Scavenger Hunt! That’s right, I’m doing it again!

This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! On this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize—one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 120 hours!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are SEVEN contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the GREEN TEAM—but there is also a red team, a gold team, a blue team, a purple team, an orange team, and a pink team for a chance to win a whole different set of books!

If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.

Julie Reece writes YA stories. Many inspired by life in the southeastern states where she grew up. She’s passionate about family, friends, animals, underdogs, and writing, but bubble baths and dark chocolate make the list, too.

I’m super excited to be doing the YA Scavenger Hunt again. It’s fun to get to know new-to-me authors and check out their amazing books. This year there are at least 17 authors I’ve never met, including Julie, featured below, and Kelly, who I stalk—er, follow—on Twitter and I’ve linked to at the end of this post. So without further adieu, here’s Julie!

Hi everyone. I’m Julie Reece and I’m so excited to be in part of the YA Scavenger Hunt this year! For this Fall’s hunt, I wanted to share a Novel Aesthetic for my book.

A Novel Aesthetic is a great way to visualize the setting, characters, and tone of a story. THE ARTISANS takes place in a small South Carolina town, and involves gothic mystery, magic and a family curse. A stormy romance brews between two characters that may have more in common than they first realize, and they will have to put aside their differences to find the peace and freedom they both long for.

Here it is!

I think it really captures the feel of the book, but to really get the complete picture, check out my full color Pinterest inspiration board for THE ARTISANS.

Thanks so much for playing on Team Green, happy hunting!

The Artisans

They say death can be beautiful. But after the death of her mother, seventeen-year-old Raven Weathersby gives up her dream of becoming a fashion designer, barely surviving life in the South Carolina lowlands.

To make ends meet, Raven works after school as a seamstress creating stunning works of fashion that often rival the great names of the day.

Instead of making things easier on the high school senior, her stepdad’s drinking leads to a run in with the highly reclusive heir to the Maddox family fortune, Gideon Maddox.

But Raven’s stepdad’s drying out and in no condition to attend the meeting with Maddox. So Raven volunteers to take his place and offers to repay the debt in order to keep the only father she’s ever known out of jail, or worse.

Gideon Maddox agrees, outlining an outrageous demand: Raven must live in his home for a year while she designs for Maddox Industries’ clothing line, signing over her creative rights.

Her handsome young captor is arrogant and infuriating to the nth degree, and Raven can’t imagine working for him, let alone sharing the same space for more than five minutes.

But nothing is ever as it seems. Is Gideon Maddox the monster the world believes him to be? And can he stand to let the young seamstress see him as he really is?

Continue the Hunt

It’s Melanie again. Don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of books by me, Julie, and many more! To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is 17. Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the green team and you’ll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize!

To keep going on your quest for the hunt, you need to check out the next author: Kelly deVos. Kelly is from Gilbert, Arizona, where she lives with her high school sweetheart husband, amazing teen daughter and superhero dog, Cocoa. She holds a B.A. in Creative Writing from Arizona State University. When not reading or writing, Kelly can typically be found with a mocha in hand, bingeing the latest TV shows and adding to her ever-growing sticker collection.

Her book FAT GIRL ON A PLANE is HIGH on my TBR list! Go check her out!
