YA Scavenger Hunt featuring Kristi Helvig

THE HUNT HAS ENDED. THANKS FOR PLAYING!

Welcome to YA Scavenger Hunt! This bi-annual event was organized as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! On this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize—one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 120 hours!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are THREE contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the RED TEAM—but there is also also a blue team and a purple team, and you can enter all of them for a chance to win a whole different set of books!

Sadly, this is the final YASH, so if you’ve always wanted to participate but figured you’d wait until next time—DO IT NOW! If this were the second to last one, this would be my SEVENTH time participating, but alas, it is not. (That’s a hint…)

If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.

Be sure to check out KILLER POINTE!

Exclusive Content

Kristi’s latest book, KILLER POINTE (Dark Edge Publishing), is an urban fantasy involving a teen who plans to fund her dreams of Juilliard School for dance in this world by serving as an assassin in a parallel fairy tale world.

Here’s Kristi’s bonus content that’s EXCLUSIVE for the scavenger hunt:

Inspiration for Dance Move in Final Battle Scene

As a dance mom who has spent countless hours in dance studios, recitals, ballets, competitions and conventions for my daughter, I knew I’d write a book involving dance. My life around dance actually started in my own childhood with my younger sister. I lost count of how many Nutcracker performances I attended as a youth and then my sister went on to attend a school of the arts for ballet in high school before joining a professional ballet company. KILLER POINTE is an urban fantasy involving a teen ballerina who plans to fund her attendance at Juilliard in this world by serving as a hired assassin in a parallel fairy tale world.

When I got to the big battle scene toward the end of the novel, I needed some help. My main character was a dancer by training and didn’t have any combat or martial arts experience so I needed her showdown with the villain to involve some sort of dance move. As much as I loved the breakdance-fighting scene in Zoolander, I needed something more realistic. So, I called my sister and asked for a dance move that could take down a bad guy. She knew the answer instantly and had even heard a tale of a female dancer in NYC fending off a would-be attacker with the move. Thus, the grand battement became a key part of the battle scene at the end of KILLER POINTE.

I’m also giving away an additional ebook of KILLER POINTE to one lucky winner on my blog, so don’t forget to stop by and enter!

Don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of books by me, Kristi, and more! To enter, you need to know that my special YASH number is SEVEN. Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the Red Team and you’ll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize!

Continue the Hunt

To keep going on your quest for the hunt, you need to check out the next author—Livia Blackburne!

  1. Thank you for taking part in YASH. I wish this weren’t the last one.

You Beneath Your Skin By Damyanti Biswas has been the best book I’ve read in 2020 so far.
I also really enjoyed Van Helsing Academy by Stacey O’Neale and Not Guilty by C. Lee McKenzie.
I’m looking forward to the book When Shadows Walk by Michael Mersault.
I’m super excited about the YA query contest Pass or Pages at Operation Awesome this October.
