Getting to Know Christina Herrera

Please help me give a big Hoosblog welcome to Christina Herrera!

Christina Herrera has always loved romance. Even as a child she would make up romantic plots with her older sisters as part of her bedtime stories. As she grew up, she remained fascinated by storytelling. When she was nineteen years old, she authored her first book. Ever since then she knew what she wanted to do in life: read, edit, and write down all of her romantic stories.

Tell us about your book!

This is a book I wrote when I was 20 years old. It was the fastest I’ve ever written a full length novel. I’m 25 now. I heavily revised this book for the past five years. Kissing the Skater Boy book is book two in a standalone series. The first book is called Kissing the Wrong Twin.

Here’s the blurb:

A cocky skater boy. A studious newspaper editor. Enemies can still attract, right?

It all started at our small private school, Hidden Shores Academy, on the first day. The new kid was texting as he came down the stairs. His longboard slipped out of his fingers, smacking me right in the face.

His first reaction should have been to check if I was okay, but no, his gut instinct told him to check and see how his precious board survived the attack.

Of course, he ended up in almost all my classes.

No matter what I do, he keeps finding ways to talk to me.

But I’m not interested in him. I’m trying to stay focused on my position as head editor of my high school’s newspaper.

I have dreams to chase. I’m applying for a Journalism scholarship. I don’t have time for a know-it-all boy like Justin.

Besides, I had a boyfriend before. It didn’t end well.

The last thing I want is more drama, and I can tell by the smug grin on the skater boy’s face that he’s full of it.

He may be my worst enemy, but there’s something about the way hasn’t given up on me that makes me wonder if he’s not that bad after all.

If you like sweet romance, then look no further! This book has lots of crush-worthy moments. It has hand-holding, flirtatious dialogue, and kissing. But you won’t find any swearing, nudity, or sex.

Now for the fun stuff!

What’s your favorite genre? Do you read what you write?

Young Adult Contemporary Romance is the genre that the majority of my books are in. But I also wrote a Sweet Adult Romance novella and a YA Paranormal Romance. I love reading most genres as long as they are clean.

I admit I mostly read YA contemporary romance too.

What’s your favorite part about writing?

I love escapism. It’s highly therapeutic.

I agree – the world just disappears for me while I’m writing.

What’s the hardest part of writing for you?l

Word count. Or just simply having the determination to write a whole freakin’ book, LOL.

Right!? It can be daunting if we let ourselves think about that too much.

What’s an activity unrelated to writing that you love?

I love singing and dancing, reading, and taking walks outside.

Being outdoors completely rejuvenates me!

Who’s your biggest cheerleader?

My husband. He is always telling me to look on the bright side of things and always helps me smile again.

It’s wonderful having someone to support us that way. <3

Now I’d like to play a fun little game called This or That. As a writer, I find that a lot of interviews ask the same questions, so I always appreciate sharing something new about myself. I’m super excited about these questions—and I hope you enjoy them!

Introvert or extrovert? I am becoming more of an extrovert. I go through phases where I’m super outgoing and other times when I like to keep to myself.

Morning or night person? Night person, for sure! I love the mornings if I get to sleep in a nice, cozy bed with the heater on, lol.

Coffee or tea? Herbal tea. I have never tried coffee, so I can’t say much.

Sweet or salty? Salty. Every now and then I go through phases where I try to avoid sugar at all costs. But salty can save the day during these fasts from sugary desserts.

Eternal summer or four seasons? Eternal summer.

Mountains or beach? The beach.

Dogs or cats? Cats.

Over 5’5” or under? Over 5’5″. I am 5’8.

Left or right-handed? Right-handed.

Hoodie or yoga pants? Hoodie. They are super warm and comfy!

I agree that salty snacks can save the day.

Christina, thank you so much for spending this time with me and my readers. Readers, you can find Christina at these links—and be sure to check out Kissing the Skater Boy!
